Every scene, every character.

EditLab cuts a whole episode into shots, finds the character you edit, locks their face in frame and hands the clips to After Effects. Offline, on your Windows PC.

Opens anything FFmpeg reads. Hands off to After Effects.

Most of an edit is scrubbing.

Six tools, one pass through the episode. Every tool picks up where the last one stopped: no exporting in between, no re-importing, no second app to learn.

  1. Scene Cut

Scores every frame, adapts its threshold to the episode and splits it into shots. Dissolves and fades are caught too. Each shot gets a thumbnail from its middle, not its first blurry frame.

    Low, Normal or High
    44:44 episode
    922 shots in 1:53
  2. Character Cut

Pick a few reference faces once and save them as a Character Profile. EditLab finds every clip that character is in, across one episode or a whole season queue. Duo mode keeps only the shots where both are on screen.

  3. Dialogue Search

Type a line and jump to the moment it's said. The whole season is transcribed on your PC with whisper.cpp, on your graphics card when you have one.

  4. Parallel Finder

Choose a clip and get the shots that match it in framing, camera move, face position and colour, from other episodes or other shows. Mirrored matches and recycled footage are flagged.

  5. Face Track

Reframe to 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or any size with the face locked in place. Planar tracking holds position, rotation and size through blur, profile turns and handheld shake.

  6. Export or After Effects

Export ProRes or hardware MP4 in a queue, with HDR tone-mapped to SDR. Or skip rendering: press Ae and the clips land in your open comp at the playhead, already trimmed.

The best edit is the one nobody saw you scrub for.

Hand EditLab the episode tonight. Wake up to the clips.

Boring in the ways that matter.

No account, no upload, no cloud queue. The parts nobody demos, and the parts that decide whether you trust it with a season.

Nothing leaves your PC.

FFmpeg and every face model ship inside the installer. Scans, tracking and exports run on your own CPU and GPU.

HDR that looks right.

HDR10 rips are tone-mapped to SDR on export, so they don't come out grey. Drag to compare.

Simple plans, after the beta.

Everything is free while EditLab is in beta. These are the plans that start when it leaves beta. Prices in US dollars.

System requirements.

EditLab runs on any modern Windows PC. An NVIDIA card makes scans and exports several times faster; without one, EditLab shows a time estimate before it starts.

Also needed: Microsoft WebView2, which Windows 11 already has. Setup adds it on Windows 10 if it's missing.

Free while it's in beta.

The beta has every tool unlocked. In return we'd love to hear what breaks, what's slow and what you wish it did. Paid plans come later, and beta testers hear about them first.

Questions editors ask us.

Something else? Use Report a problem inside the app. It zips the log and your system info, so we see what you saw.

Is EditLab free?

Yes, for the whole beta. When EditLab launches there will be a free tier and paid plans. We'll tell beta testers before anything changes.

Does it upload my videos anywhere?

No. Everything runs on your computer. EditLab works without an internet connection after it's installed.

Which video files does it open?

Anything FFmpeg reads: MKV, MP4, MOV and more, in H.264, HEVC, AV1 or ProRes, SDR or HDR10, up to 4K.

Which After Effects versions work?

We test with After Effects 2026. The handoff uses AE's standard scripting, so recent versions should work too. To see a confirmation in EditLab, turn on “Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network” in AE's Scripting & Expressions settings.

Is there a Mac version?

Not yet. EditLab is Windows-only during the beta.

Can I use it without an NVIDIA card?

Yes. Scans and exports fall back to your CPU and other GPUs. They take longer, and EditLab shows a time estimate so you know what to expect.

Windows says the installer is unsafe. Why?

The beta installer isn't signed with a code-signing certificate yet, so SmartScreen doesn't recognise it. Click More info, then Run anyway. Signed builds come before launch.

How do I uninstall or update it?

Uninstall from Settings, Apps, EditLab. Your video files were never moved or changed. To update, run the new installer: it updates in place and keeps your library, cuts and character profiles.
